Calling all nature lovers and green thumbs – the City of Gosnells is looking for volunteers to get their hands dirty for a good cause at the annual National Tree Day community planting event.

Run in partnership with the Armadale Gosnells Landcare Group, the mass planting event will be held on Sunday 28 July from 9am to 12pm at Tom Bateman Wetland in Thornlie and provides the opportunity for locals to meet like-minded people and do their bit for the environment.

“Over the years, we have been incredibly lucky to have up to 200 members from our community come down to volunteer for National Tree Day,” City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes said.

“We are hoping for another great turnout this year to help plant 9500 native seedlings around Tom Bateman Wetland,” she said.

“We encourage gardening enthusiasts of any age to come along to this great community event – as long as you’re willing to get your hands dirty, of course!”

The planting will go ahead rain or shine, with participants asked to dress appropriately for the weather and bring their own trowels, gloves, gumboots and a water bottle.

Following the planting, volunteers are invited to stay for a sausage sizzle provided by the City.
