Users of community and sports facilities in the City of Gosnells will receive much-needed financial support, as part of the City’s ongoing response to COVID-19.

A relief package worth more than $150,000 was approved by Council this week to assist hirers and lessees who were significantly impacted when restrictions and facility closures were implemented in March. The package includes waiving fees for ground hire and floodlighting levy for the whole of the winter season for sports clubs.

Mayor David Goode said the closures directly affected more than 60 community-based organisations with many clubs experiencing fewer registrations, lost sponsorship and reduced fundraising opportunities.

“These sports clubs and community groups are the lifeblood of our City and make a significant contribution to the social, mental and physical wellbeing of residents of all ages.

“They provide important services to our community, which is why the City’s COVID-19 relief package has been developed.”
