City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes read popular Australian picture book Family Tree to a captivated young audience at Amherst Village Library this week, as part of National Simultaneous Storytime.

Through this annual event, the same picture book is read at the same time in libraries, schools, learning centres and homes around Australia, in a bid to encourage children to take an interest in reading from a young age.

"Picture books play an important role in encouraging an early love of reading in children, helping to develop their literacy skills," Mayor Lynes said.

"Picture books are a fun way for children to build comprehension, inspire visual thinking and engage with complex themes and ideas in a safe and familiar way,” she said.
