Science isn't just for kids - it's for adults too!

In honour of National Science Week, join us for a free event series that celebrates how science can help in your homes.

Most people understand the concept of a native garden - but can you grow local native plants next to a veggie patch? How can you apply the science of ecology to grow a thriving garden whilst supporting our local flora and fauna?

If you've ever been intrigued by the concept of "companion planting", join us for this free workshop and deepen your understanding of plant relationships. Attendees will learn about Perth's rich biodiversity and see how building plant communities can transform your home garden. From nitrogen-fixing legumes to pollinator-attracting herbs, you'll discover the hidden connections and interactions between plants and insects that help make healthy, vibrant garden ecosystems.

Participants will also learn about soil health, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable land management practices. Whether you're starting from scratch or looking to enhance your established garden, you'll finish this workshop with the tools to create a thriving ecosystem in your very own backyard.

Garden Ecology is presented by Steve McCabe, an expert in terrestrial ecology and sustainable gardening practices. This workshop is hosted by the City of Gosnells in partnership with Switch Your Thinking.

The workshop will take place in the Reference and Study Area, located in the back left corner of Gosnells Library. Bookings are essential, and open to the public on the 11th of July 2024. Click here to book your spot!
