City announces Underground Sounds finalists

Six talented local acts have been handpicked to battle it out on stage next month at Underground Sounds, the popular annual music competition for young people, presented by the City of Gosnells.

After a careful review of entries, the judging panel decided on local R&B act rosegreen, pop-punk-rock band Cities, singer-songwriter Ava Sharp, dynamic vocalist Navisha, four-piece rock band The Ruby Keys and grunge rockers Cult of Humanity as the finalists.

The six acts will perform live at the Underground Sounds final on Saturday 5 October, alongside headline act and Perth artist Wesley Black.

The top three performers and will be decided by a judging panel at the event and will walk away with a share of the $2750 prize pool

Mayor Terresa Lynes said the calibre of entries this year was a testament to local talent in the City.

“This year’s finalists have shown that we have some very talented young musicians right here in the City of Gosnells,” she said.

“I know it will be a difficult task for the judging panel to select the winners this year, but it is also a great platform for these young artists to showcase their talents in front of a home crowd.
“I encourage the local community to come along to watch the performances.”

Formerly known as Gozzy Rock, the competition is now in its 37th year and has attracted a diverse array of young, up-and-coming music talent over the years.

Last year’s winners were local rockers Viperchain, who have gone on to gain further exposure on Triple J Unearthed and have also performed at sold-out gigs across Perth.

The final will be staged at The Underground youth centre, 2 Holmes Street, Southern River, from 4pm to 9pm on Saturday 5 October.
